Inlay designs for others
Posting page for inlay designs commissioned by CT members.
The going rate for an inlay design is $150 for one background design, with different denoms and some color matching. If the backgrounds are significantly different, then $50 for each additional background design. The litmus test is BCC’s artwork fee. If BCC thinks the background is different enough to trigger the additional plating fee, then so do I.
SPQR is an example of a set that requires a higher fee. Club Mujaba would be a sample of a basic fee.
I have done inlay designs for less, but given that I spend about 5 to 10 hours to get the design to a point where I’m happy with it, anything less than $20 an hour really starts getting pointless. At $5 an hour, I’d rather be vaccuuming the house. And that doesn’t really pay well.
I can be reached at chiptalk.net (mizuchaud). Or leave a comment. Or send me an email. (tan.michael[at]gmail.com)
My working method includes a lot of back and forth of images and sketches by email. I also tend to take what you give me and work on alternate ideas that pop in my head when I look at the initial ideas. Some clients have called this approach being presented with ‘curveballs’, but I find it fruitful. If you want nothing but a straightforward execution of your sketched ideas and can’t take alternatives, I’m probably the wrong person to use.
