Week 5 – Lazy River Club V.02
ffffound trolling kicked up an old sticker label for some sort of heavy industry company.
Repo’d it.
I hate how grey Illustrator’s CMYK 000100 black looks.
It’s so hazy. Not black. Usually forget to slide all the sliders over to full black with all colors in there too so I can get the dense color punch behind the black.
Dammit.
Anyways, fun little sketch while waiting at the foot of my kid’s bed for him to fall asleep.
One inlay design a week is a total grind. This sucks.
Week 4 – denom hotstamp faces
As a side project, or maybe an ongoing project, I hope to develop a hotstamp design for some denominations.
The front stamp would be whatever develops from the Week 3 project: LRC.
Some denoms that I have been thinking about:
- 50 Cents
- $2
- $20
I have two racks of light green sm crowns and one rack of fire to stamp. I don’t know where they should fit into the set.
I don’t even know when I would be using them in a game, so part of me just wants to keep them NCV so they go with the 260 grey Plantations. green/grey/fire as T25/100/500…
Whatever.
So sketches to follow.
Or not as the norm may be.
Week 3 – LRC version 1.0
Lazy River Club has been an inlay ‘name’ that I constantly sketch.
For this week, trying to keep it simple, as the lack of updates for last week’s sketch shows, I have a real hard time keeping up with a stupid ‘stretch’ goal of one inlay design a week.
One a month would be punking out, so I’m keeping it simple.
Lazy River Club. I have a few sketches I can recycle, but I think I’ll go with the new ones.
Chinese characters for ‘Lazy’ and ‘River’ too.
Black and white again.
Week 2 – The Flying Deuce
I realized I have a lot less time than I thought during the week. I only got to revise last week’s attempt at a design once.

But a week’s a week, and who’s to say I won’t be coming back to start certain ones up again.
This week starts with a sketch done during Chinese School on Sunday. I have been trolling through a lot of motorcycle and fixed gear bicycle websites and blogs recently. The funny thing is that at the micro detail level, the two ‘bikes’ will probably look very much alike. Hey, one’s just a bike with a motor shoved into the middle, really.
What has been really interesting to see in all the blogs and sites is how a bike or motorbike enthusiast can get all tied up in the micro details of building a ride up. Some of the paint jobs on these things has been really nice to see too.
For the inlay design, I think it’s going to be a two faced one, where the bike and the motorbike with their peri-phernalia will change but the banner and main design will remain the same.
Colors, fonts, and all that wil have to come later in the week.
